Pontifical High Mass - SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
![]()
On Saturday 14 June 2008, at the invitation of the Latin Mass Society, HE Darío Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos celebrated a Pontifical High Mass at the Throne in Westminster Cathedral. The Cathedral was packed with many people forced to stand in the aisles and at the back. The congregation included very many young people and families and probably numbered about 1,500.
Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos also met with the Papal Nuncio, attended an LMS dinner in his honour, gave press interviews, addressed the LMS’s AGM, had a private meeting with Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor and attended an LMS lunch in his honour. Immediately after celebrating Mass he was driven to the airport to fly back to Rome for commitments the following day. All this was packed into a visit which lasted little more than 24 hours!
The LMS office has been inundated with work (much of it answering messages of congratulations!) subsequent to the Mass and it will take us a few days to prepare our reports for the LMS website.
In the meantime a full photographic record of Cardinal Castrillon’s visit can be seen at: www.traditionalcatholic.org.uk
The LMS wishes to record its grateful thanks to Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, and to Mgr Mark Langham, who recently stepped down as Cathedral Administrator, and his successor, Fr Christopher Tuckwell, for their kind permissions and help. We also owe our gratitude to the Cathedral choir and staff.
